Carbon-Protected BiVO4—Cu2O Thin Film Tandem Cell for Solar Water Splitting Applications

Carbon-protected BiVO4 photoanode and Cu2O photocathode tandem photoelectrochemical (PEC) system has been explored to reduce surface recombination enhance the stability of photoelectrodes. In addition carbon layer, electrodeposited FeOOH nanolayer drop-casted MoS2 co-catalyst layer on photocathode, respectively improve reaction kinetics. The optimized (Mo-BiVO4/C/FeOOH) (Cu2O/C/MoS2) produces current densities ~1.22 mA cm?2 at 1.23 V vs. RHE ~?1.48 0 RHE, respectively. obtained photocurrent is higher than bare photoelectrodes without a layer. Finally, cell constructed, an unassisted density ~0.107 for carbon-protected BiVO4–Cu2O PEC zero bias. improved enhanced protective are attributed its better charge transfer resistance minimized defects. Carbon can be viable option in aqueous media.
